I ran my battery down for the last time, caused by mistakenly turning the ignition switch, to the wrong direction (which causes the tail light to remain on). To prevent this from ever happening, remove one of the tail light wires (parking only) wire from the ignition switch. After removing the wire, make sure that you tape the end, so that it will be insulated during regular “ON” position of the ignition switch (the wire is still connected to the tail light). First step, is to remove the left side cover. I made this easier to do, by replacing the phillips screw (hard to get a screw driver in at the proper angle) with a thumb screw. Next disconect the battery ground for safety reasons (use a 10mm wrench because again it is hard to get, screw driver access). Remove the ignition switch (fastened with one allen screw). Remove the white plastic insulator (two phillips screws). Cut the brown wire that is right next to the red one. Tape this brown wire.
Reassemble everything, being careful to orientate the switch so that the plastic position lugs on the white insulator match the frame mount. The results of this operation allows you to shut down in either position of the switch, but still have normal “ON” position.
